The Olympics

I love the Olympics. I'm not loving the network coverage (don't have cable yet/any more), but I love the games. I made the following observations when watching the opening ceremonies and first day coverage:

  • South Korea/North Korea enter and march together for the second time -- promising.
  • Iranian withdraws to avoid being matched against an Israeli -- not so promising.
  • Palestine has an Olympic team -- promising
  • United States still gets very warm welcome despite being despised around the globe for our foreign policy -- shows that most of the world is wiser than most of the United States

Looking forward to more coverage and maybe getting cable to avoid the time delay.

  • medals

I watched a news report in the break room during work today claiming that China, Japan, and the United States were "tied for medals," each having a total of eight medals at the time of the report. They then displayed a chart which showed that of the medals each country had, five of China's were gold, four of Japan's were gold, and one of the United States' was gold. Tied for medals my ass.

CBS news gets a tinfoil medal for shitty reporting.

    Re: medals

Of course we're not tied for medals. The US ALWAYS TRIUMPHS!

Why do the facts hate America?

i'll second that about the medals

i cant believe USA basketball lost. i didnt see the game but heard that the US team were sore losers and that richard jefferson tried to start a fight - did anybody see this? i did notice that after losing to italy in volleyball, there was a bit of a scuffle and i heard one of the US players saying "fuck you" to one of the italian players. is it just me, or is america full of sore losers?
